Rehydrate on Weekends

"My advice to you is to start drinking heavily". This famous quote from the movie "Animal House" was referring to alcohol. I am instead advocating that you drink as much water as you can during the day. Your body is primarily composed of water and it is essential for it to perform all of its necessary functions. One important function as it relates to your feet, is to enable your cells to fight off inflammation, which can lead to foot pain. With the proper hydration, your body is able to rid itself of toxins that build up at the cellular level thereby reducing your chances of foot and ankle pain.

I know that during the work week, it is sometimes hard to drink large amounts of water. So use the weekends to catch up a bit! A simple indicator to see how well you are hydrated is to notice the color of your urine...if it is bright yellow, increase your consumption. Obviously, the amount that you drink will vary from person to person based on your body weight, activity level (drink a bit more while doing exercise) and internal factors. The typical recommendation for the amount you need is taking your body weight and then dividing that by “2”. This will give you the number of ounces that you need. Make sure not to “OVER-HYDRATE”, as this will cause serious health problems!

With your body “well-hydrated”, you can then increase your activity level to improve your overall health and wellness. Be sure to wear properly fitting shoes (be able to "play the piano with your toes" inside your shoes) and “orthotics” to balance your feet properly.

I invite everyone to join me for a drink of water on the “Wellness Wagon”…don’t worry, there are restrooms onboard!

Remember to "Start With Your Feet".

Walk Strong…with orthotics,

Doc Rick DPM
