Why HOLISTIC Podiatry?

When I decided to start practicing Podiatric Medicine holistically, I took myself back in time to my graduation from Podiatry School in New York City. During the ceremony we raised our hands and took the "Hippocratic Oath" which states "First, do no harm". The attraction of using natural supplements that have a better safety profile appealed to me. There are many disadvantages when dealing with prescription medications including untoward side effects and drug to drug interactions. For example, I had patients that told me that they ended up hospitalized with bleeding stomach ulcers from taking prescription and over-the-counter anti-inflammatories. Luckily, I wasn't the one who had prescribed or recommended them, but it could have been, since I was using similar drugs in my arsenal. I decided to change my practice model and incorporate a safer approach.

Of course, I had to make sure that I had good treatment outcomes. I then went to work on developing my own protocol for the foot, ankle and leg problems that I see on a daily basis. I am happy to say that I can now confidently treat my patients successfully without causing bad side effects that might land them in the hospital. That gives me and my patients one less thing to worry about and allows peace of mind. All you need to do is "think outside the box". Consider going "holistic" when you experience your next foot or leg problem. Like they said in the old "Alka-Seltzer" commercial..."Try it, you'll like it!"

Walk strong…with orthotics,
